Amazing Americans, from Nathan Hale to P.T. Barnum

Connecticut was home to both and many more people that built our great nation.

My experience in Connecticut reminded me that good things come in small packages. Learning about the people we have quoted, or think we quoted, read about and are part of our history truly comes to life here.

But there is more than history. Connecticut has golf courses, hiking, whitewater rafting and great bicycle paths.

For the art lover try the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, the oldest continually operated museum in the USA.

Getting back to quotes visit Mark Twain’s home for a in-depth insight of this American literary icon.

If the sea is what calls to you, then Mystic Seaport is a must.

Perhaps one of the most misunderstood men in entertainment, P.T. Barnum is delightfully and accurately represented in the Barnum Museum. Although the historic structure is under repair the museum is open and free to the public. Believe it or not, P.T. Barnum did not say ‘there is a sucker born every minute’.

Connecticut is about a 5 or 6 hour drive from the Washington DC area and you can pass through New York, stop to see a show and spend a great weekend in Connecticut.

We stayed at the Merrywood Inn Bed & Breakfast in Simsbury CT. They are not open all year but if you can catch them, its one of the best b&b’s I’ve stayed at.

Ask yourself this question the next time you are ready to make travel plans whether for work or pleasure, ‘what am I worth’, or perhaps what is my time worth? Would I rather spend it searching the internet for hotels and flights and figuring out how to entertain myself and my family or would I rather let someone else do that for me so I can make money or enjoy time with my loved ones?
